We are now halfway through sea turtle nesting season and we need your help!
This is the 36th year of the Conservancy of Southwest Florida’s Sea Turtle Monitoring and Protection Program, making it one of the longest-running programs in the country.
To date, Conservancy biologists have documented over 285,000 hatchlings on our beaches because of your support. Please donate today and help continue to make this incredible research possible!
Even when the water quality is strong, only 1 in every 1,000 hatchlings survives to adulthood. But with this current red tide bloom persisting for several months and adult sea turtles washing up along our beaches, each turtle we save is more important than ever to the future of this already threatened species.
Our research is vital to each and every one of these turtles so they can continue to thrive. Some of the ways your generous gifts will be used:
- Protecting loggerhead sea turtle nests from predation by caging them; raccoons destroy 80–85% of nests. $100 can protect up to 8 of these precious nests.
- Funding interns. Our researchers could not do the work alone. With your support, we are able to employ numerous interns for our sea turtle projects. $700 employs one intern a month.
- GPS satellite tracking tags are vital to our long-term research; without them, we could not see their habits when they are not here in Southwest Florida. $3,500 provides one GPS tracking tag.
Please continue to help our sea turtles fight the odds of survival. A donation today means that the first step a hatchling takes from his nest is not his last. I hope my passion for our critical sea turtle program may help renew or inspire your support today!
Thank you, in advance, for your generosity and commitment.
