Quick Steps: Keep the Conservancy in your Facebook Newsfeed

Facebook announced that it is tweaking its news feed algorithm to emphasize posts from friends and family. This change could cause you to see fewer posts from the Conservancy of Southwest Florida and other organizations or pages you follow.

The following steps will be for the Facebook app on a mobile device. Desktop instructions can be found toward the bottom of this post.

The very first thing you need to do is to make sure you already LIKE our page at https://www.facebook.com/ConservancySWF/

Now, head to our page and find the “following” button. From there, you will have a some options. (Images below)

SEE FIRST: This option assures that you will see every post from the Conservancy. This is the best option to stay informed about our work, events at the Nature Center and our Action Alerts, which keep you up to date on current environmental issues facing Southwest Florida and an option to contact government officials.

DEFAULT: Clicking “default” essentially allows the Facebook algorithm to decide what you see. With this option, Facebook will show you posts based on how often you like, comment or share our content.

If you really want to be in the loop, there is another step you can take to make sure you never miss a post from the Conservancy; you can add us to your “Notifications” list. This way, Conservancy posts will show up as one of those little red numbers — like in the image above — just like when a friend tags you in a post.

To manage your notifications on your mobile device, click on the “More” button and click down to “Notifications.” From there, you can “Edit Notification Settings” and then select which notifications you’d like to receive from the page.
