Help us rehab this gopher tortoise
In the picture above, you can see the devastating impacts that result when a car strikes a gopher tortoise — something that happens all too often here in Southwest Florida.
In the picture below, you can see a picture of that same gopher tortoise after receiving care from the von Arx Wildlife Hospital.
We expect this tortoise to make a full recovery, but it will be a very extensive process and could be a year or more until the animal is completely rehabilitated and released.
When you consider time with our staff veterinarian, medicine, and food costs, caring for this tortoise alone is estimated to cost at least $20 a day.
Though our team never knows what to expect on a day-to-day basis, each animal admitted to the von Arx Wildlife Hospital is given the same care and attention that you would receive at a human hospital.
